Just wanted to add this. My perspective is skewed because my consultancy firm focusses on Microsoft, but most of the companies I've seen use TFS, C#, VS Enterprise, SQL Server, Skype for Business, and Azure (and usually git and Angular

Well, I'm not sure if there are strict rules to what should be called a pointer and what not (which was why I was a little bit vague in my post: In my defense, I stated "there are no pointers"). I think you can still derefere

Oh, how many hours I spent in front of that TUI. QBasic was how programming should be . It's amazingly simple to understand (at the cost of ugly and somewhat verbose syntax). It doesn't force any mental burdens on you, and it inc

That is called high-level synthesis and there are some tools for this available (and I know at least one company who produces a proprietary toolchain - including hardware - for this). In my experience, high-level synthesis makes things a lo

That's about Steve Wozniak (who actually made the product that made Apple great) though, not Steve Jobs. Steve Wozniak seems like a great person. Steve Jobs... not so much.

I think you're over-romanticizing. I've read his biography and Steve Jobs was extremely friendly to people higher in the hierarchy, and humiliated people lower in the hierarchy. He also had a habit of dismissing your idea as terri

I know opencores.org, which seems to be similar (but I like the organization of the OpenCores site better to be honest). We made some small improvements to the Plasma CPU [1] (which uses a small subset of a MIPS instruction set) in a univer

There seem to be many more jobs in software. The jobs I found in more hardware-related fields seem to be harder to get in (especially if you're not an electrical engineer), and seem to have lower salaries. Besides, there only seem to b

I would interpret the headline as indicating a huge increase in absolute numbers, and I don't find it misleading. I've seen much more misleading interpretations and explanations of statistics (not necessarily intentional).

You could argue that a null pointer would be a correct pointer, since you are not allowed to dereference it anyway (since there is no data to access). It will probably break some assertions and assumptions though. Edit: I see that 8xde0wcNw

I think overflow occurs when w * h > SIZE_MAX So you just want to make sure that w > 0 and w * h <= SIZE_MAX. But if w * h is large enough, it overflows, which would result in w * h <= SIZE_MAX being evaluated to true. I agr

Educate a noob: What is the significance of overclocking at this insane frequency when the CPU is not stable? From a digital design perspective I would imagine that a lot of timing constraints are not met, and this makes the CPU unstable. W

Excel is a horrible tool, in general. I remember that I exported a very long list of numbers to a .CSV. Excel then formatted the numbers (like 53564566934 to the form 52564E+6). If you then copy and paste, the numbers are actually converted

Hah, I am definitely aware of the danger of ESD. I just don't have a place near my desk to mount my anti-ESD wristband. What I did instead was touching a radiator every once in a while. Is this sufficient?
