Parts of Quantum are addressing this, and also Electrolysis will also probably grow to fix this as well. You can already turn on multiple content processes in Firefox to get Chrome-like behavior (at the cost of some rough edges; there'

To elaborate on this "production grade" comment, Quantum is using the same code that's in Servo. I think the fact we were able to build a production grade style system so quickly (and that is 4x faster!) is a testament to the

I think performance of the style systems in Blink and Firefox are similar. Since Servo's style system is linearly scalable, we expect most users to get a ~4x speed improvement on styling. Users's don't care specifically about

I apologize and I'll remove that bit. It was not my intention to feed impostor syndrome and we try to do the opposite by being supportive and encouraging of current and potential contributors.

I imagine this depends on the team. On our team we want to do them where you'll be able to meet team members, so that is the main geographic limitation. We tend to want to do them in SF or MV because there are lots of potential intervi

To be clear here, the take home code challenge was designed to take about an hour. We tried to design this to be respectful of people's time and with the assumption that people aren't just applying to our job.

Rust and Python are not mutually exclusive languages. Servo uses quite a lot of python in the build tooling and server infrastructure stuff.

I believe we did an experiment with llvmpipe which wasn't nearly as fast as webrender on a GPU, but was faster than the other software renderers. So there is some reason to hope for a very easy software fallback that is still competiti

WebRender 2 is just the next evolution of WebRender. After we started testing the original one on real sites and apps, we discovered a few performance problems. Glenn had some ideas for how to fix them that involved changing quite a lot of

I think the browser.html team will be very interested in this feedback. I sat with them as they poured over Cocoa disassembly and source trying to replicate the behavior as best they could. We definitely have some things to improve. Because

I don't think we do autodetection yet aside from what Glutin already does (which is very basic). But you can put Servo into a HiDPI mode manually with the --device-pixel-ratio=2.0 argument, and you can supply whatever ratio you like. W

If you start servo with the devtools port on, you can use the Firefox tools to get a remote console. This may or may not be working well at the moment. The JS console.log stuff will get output to stdout or stderr when you run as well. There

We've gotten several reports of this, and this is exactly why we wanted to get some wider testing. Hopefully we'll figure this out and get a patch in soon. In the meantime, the suggested workaround will get you going I think at th

We're planning some more in depth blog posts on how Servo works, and this was already one of the topics I wanted to cover. The gist is that Servo runs most subsystems on separate threads (including sandboxed and cross origin iframes fo

The browser.html team works on the frontend, so they are very much interested in improving this. You're right that Servo devs themselves often use an even more stripped down test harness that you supply URLs to on the commandline, but

We found some weird edge cases with autocomplete last night, but couldn't reproduce them well. If you have some time and can reproduce it, we'd love a bug report so we can try and figure it out.

This is not true. Servo and Spidermonkey compile fine on windows using the mingw toolchain. For the MSVC toolchain we don't have that fully working, but obviously Spidermonkey is not the problem there since the official Firefox builds
