The resources spent moving a company from CA to Boston would probably dwarf the savings. Perhaps he meant "5 Reasons To Start Your Startup Outside Of The Valley". Having lived in SF and moved away, I find it near painful to go back. Peopl

We were fairly discouraged when the w3c took the Ogg codecs out of the HTML 5 drafts. I'm very happy to see the browsers are supporting them anyway. Monty is hard at work rewriting the theora encoder we originally ported from On2. If the

We found taking out the first/last name (and pretty much everything else besides username, password, email) caused the completion rates to go way up. I guess people don't like sharing that stuff. Many of the people who did give their name

I wanted to write an app to do usability testing for a while, and then screenflow came out and my first thought was "This is exactly what I wanted, and even better to boot." I have a hard time believing no one else is using it for this. I'

The only downside to them, in my opinion, is that disk access is not super fast. This makes running databases on them much slower than a properly set up real machine. That said, I fully expect amazon to fix this, just as they have already

Most recurring billing providers handle the credit card numbers for you. So after you pass them along to their API you never need them again. Isn't it more secure not to reinvent every wheel yourself? I'm much rather let others deal with

I started a business remotely with a friend and it didn't work out. He lost motivation and I couldn't get it back. Just because you know them very well doesn't always mean they will work well remotely. But at last you may have some idea

As a founder of several companies that worked almost completely virtually, you can overcome all these issues. Inability to brainstorm at any moment? Hardly. Chat is reasonable for this task. Weakened brainstorming? Maybe. But you can alw

For me it was not an issue of complexity. We use trac internally and we contribute to other projects that have similar guidelines for contribution (namely Twisted Python). But the Django trac is quite hostile. Often your patch will be clo
