Advice number 6 is the most important one and I learned it the hard way. You may be a genius but the interviewer won't know until you express yourself. Don't sit idle thinking about stuff. At least talk what are you thinking.

I'm absolutely fine with whiteboards. What I'm not ok with is take home assignments. You are expected to work for free for 2-3 days on some project that will help no one.

I guess that sentence got a bit too imperative. Regarding games, it uses subset of OpenGL API. You can use that to crunch numbers actually. Anyways you'll have to use some external API/FFI for your job.
