I hope you don't code the way you talk ;) Seriously though, it's bad writing. Not a crime as bad as starting an off-topic subthread, but still...

Sun doesn't exist anymore though. Is getting sued even a possibility?

How does this compare to other methods of isolation / running untrusted code? What are the pros and cons?

It's a dictatorship with no concern for human rights. You decide whether to call it an "enemy" or not, but I think we should definitely avoid doing business with them.

It's funny that you say that because FreeBSD's ZFS support is the reason I use FreeBSD, and it's the number 1 thing I wish OpenBSD had.

It would be nice if you provided sources when making such harsh accusations.

There's nothing I want more out of my computing environment than being able to run OpenBSD with ZFS.

I'm fine with that as long as it's clearly explained. The issue was that the program would nudge the user to upload personal information without making it clear what was happening and that it was unnecessary for Riot to function.

I'll take the chance to plug miniVector again. It doesn't solve the problems discussed in this thread, but it's a stripped-down Riot fork that requires fewer permissions than the full program: https://github.com&#x

Linux is the last GPL component of Android. Dropping it would enable Google to close up Android source whenever they want.

I think if Google drops Linux for Fuchsia, there's a chance Microsoft picks up Android development. That would be incredible.

Yes, it's open source. I wouldn't try to claim it isn't, like the parent is doing. However Google being behind it still makes me nervous, specially since this might end up replacing the copyleft Linux kernel and contributing

In your anecdote, your parents weren't really using their PC before they got the iPad. I think this is true of a lot of people who are smartphone-only today. Android and iOS are expanding to a market that PCs never really got to.

One contributing factor to that statistic it that the phone lifecycle is a lot shorter than the desktop/laptop lifecycle. Also desktops and laptops are more likely to be shared between family members. The point is people still have acc

I didn't mean to say Linux is the best OS overall (I'm a *BSD user after all). Just that Linux became big among developers for practical reasons rather than ideological (though ideologically-driven contributors certainly helped).
