What did you think of Wire vs Riot?

Riot.im and the broader Matrix ecosystem are doing pretty well. Matrix was even adopted by the French government for internal communications. I tried Jami when it was called Ring and I couldn't figure it out after some fumbling with th

We don't need NT to have competing kernels. All of the following have their own kernels: + FreeBSD + OpenBSD + NetBSD + DragonFlyBSD + Minix + Haiku + Redox + Plan 9 + SeL4 + Fuchsia And many

Exactly. Linux won on technical merits, but we failed to educate people about the really important part about freedom.

A cloud provider and your personal machine are different things with different considerations. The advantage of using Linux on a cloud provider is primarily to prevent vendor lock-in and be able to move to a different provider or a physical

Who cares about the year of the Linux desktop when the world is still turning into 1984? There was a reason we wanted Linux to dominate and it wasn't so it would end like this.

Those are not comparable things at all. For starters, Linux is under the GPL. It also wouldn't give Microsoft the level of control over the web that the Chrome monoculture gives to Google.

Because sunk costs and it may make sense to offload their kernel development efforts to focus on what makes them money.

That's a big "if". Microsoft will keep pushing their proprietary platforms.

What's the ambiguity here? For self-identity matters we already have the expression "gender fluidity".

That's better, but doesn't separate men who have sex with manly men from those who only have sex with traps. It also excludes those who don't have sex at all for one reason or another.

Not a minor point at all. I think sexual fluidity is one of the most relevant aspects of sexuality and I would love to see it measured. Labels like "Gay" and "Bi" are way too simplistic.

The code will be tested in its 64-bit form. Is 6 months not enough to check for 32-bit specific bugs? How often are there 32-bit bugs anyway?

How much of the maintenance burden consists of 32-bit specific bugs? I would guess almost nothing, but I have no idea really.

This looks like an awesome upgrade. These are the biggest highlights to me: >The Ethernet controller on the main SoC is connected to an external Broadcom PHY over a dedicated RGMII link, providing full throughput. USB is provided via an

I don't understand, why ship different library versions for 32-bit and 64-bit? I'm proposing they reduce their maintenance burden by dropping 32-bit completely on non-LTS releases and keep supporting it properly on LTS release

Wouldn't it make sense to drop 32-bit on intermediate releases but keep it on LTS releases? It sounds like the perfect compromise to me, but I'm not sure what exactly it takes to support 32-bit. Is it a matter of human or computin

That's not true. A single person can do it at world scale provided they are not trying to do something overly esoteric (though you can actually get pretty far with a Gentoo base). There are even plenty of from-scratch distros that star
