I log into HN almost everyday, each time from a different location (Tor) and I've never seen a reCAPTCHA on HN.

The OS chrome between users varies a ton. Each taskbar, dock and titlebar can have their own size. In my case I'm using a window manager without decorations, so I don't even have a titlebar!

This is awesome. Other things I'd like to see added directly to Firefox are things like Ad and script blocking, HTTPS everywhere, and maybe something like a Tor button so that I don't have to rely on third parties for these critic

reCAPTCHA is a Google thing so it gets blocked in my browser already anyway (by uMatrix). If I need to load it to see a website, I close the tab immediately and go somewhere else.

I recommend the privacy.resistFingerpriting about:config mentioned. It's been available for a while and does other things too, like changing your user agent.

Some of my oldest books had small roundish marks that come out if you vigorously wipe with a wet cloth. I'm pretty sure those must be bacteria living off organic matter from the paper.

I suppose this a good chance to ask: is it a good idea to try to keep old and browned books isolated from new ones? I imagine a cause of degradation is bacteria, so I worry that keeping them together will cause cross-contamination and accel

Better to use the `pwgen` command for that. There's no guarantee the passwords from that site are really random / not being stored.

Well, I use pwgen and gpg ┐(´ー`)┌ A great thing about password managers is that you can change your passwords more often since you don't have to bother coming up with and remembering new passwords. It can even be somewhat automated wit

What do mean by giving up entropy? Password reuse? You can use a password manager to generate a secure pass for every site, there's no excuse for weak passwords. Here's a few I made with `pwgen`, get it while it's hot: ai

If there are fewer female essayists the chance of any given one making into any given list is reduced. I'm not saying there are fewer female essayists, but if there is that's a reasonable alternative explanation to the (implied?)
