Good times for said countries to start weaning themselves off imported cereals and go back to their own traditional crops. I can understand how Egypt got into the mess of being so dependent on cheap foreign wheat, but Nigeria and Indonesia?

Epson actually has a line doing this, the Epson EcoTank series. They're excellent. The fact that Epson is playing both games clearly means that many consumers are not taking the long-term view here.

Laser printers are really bad in terms of energy use if you don't turn them off (the toner is kept warm at all times) and interior air pollution, two problems inkjet printers avoid entirely.

Have you tried Wise? I've been using the service (based in the UK, created by Skype's founders). The exchange rate is always shared upfront, extremely cheap with various options provided, many free or dirt cheap, some faster but s

Penang, the other key constituent of the British Straits Settlements, provides an excellent counterfactual. Besides location, population, ethnic mix, colonial history, etc. were extremely similar back. Though Penang isn't a poor city b

How do you know? Did you see the metrics that were used and compare them with your bloodwork? This reads as low-effort anecdata.

Actually, the government banned synthetic fertilizers with a view to improving the country's highly negative trade balance. It was an extreme measure improvised in a rush by a country on borrowed time. Sri Lanka isn't even being s

It's worth mentioning that users of TiddlyWiki can use https://sobjornstad.github.io/TiddlyRemember/ to a similar effect. Nice seeing more initiatives in this space.

It's an animal welfare nightmare. Many of these animals are growing too fast to support their own body weight and can barely move by the time they're sent to their deaths.
