I'm from a 'prime' first-world country, The Netherlands, but I grew up in a developing nation where not having power or running water for hours was a daily thing, and not having either for days would happen with some regulari

Bernie had the main-stream media + the entire DNC apparatus against him. That's a ton of power and influence. I'm not saying he would've 'won'; it's quite possible he positioned himself as too much 'non-es

I'm fascinated by your account. It's 21 days old yet has a karma of 1. And the majority of your comments are greyed out. I wouldn't ask if this was just a personal HN account, because at this point nothing surprises me anymor

I'd definitely encourage you to look into Phoenix. For many things, Rails might still be the better option. The ecosystem is larger, for one, and it's perhaps a bit easier to 'grok' because it's OO. And I suppose an

I mind the cringy, boring and melodramatic stuff, but I find that the stuff that does work in his games incredible enough to slog through it. Planescape: Torment is on a very short list of games where some of the story or setting just ran

1) sometimes comments get downvoted for no apparent reason, in which they usually get upvoted again later. 2) many HN users downvote comments that talk about being downvoted, as it is against the rules (and can come across as needy/whi

Your analogy would perhaps make sense if there's a documented causal link between a pizzeria's shitty website and the quality of their pizza. Did I miss some ground-breaking research on the matter?

Good points, but I do think the aside that is invading a country on the other side of the world and murdering a ton of people, all in service of a globe-spanning game of ideological chess, is worth emphasizing a little extra!

Perhaps a side-note, but my most of my experience is the private sector. While the government jobs I've experienced were mostly 'the same' in all the bad ways, at least the pressure seemed a bit lower. I just wanted to point

I've been doing less and less JS stuff, but I actually miss TS at times. I think it won't end up like CoffeeScript, and it's absolutely worth using if you need to write javascript!

My impression is that for a lot of developers on HN, a kind of front-end fatigue has grown stronger and stronger. And as a result, there's a preference for various solutions that reduce the amount of 'dynamic javascript' work

While I do agree, I find that marking a message as 'edited' (like Telegram does) makes it less of a problem for me. Bonus points if I can click to see the original message!
