Wow. I've not used Spring, but that sounds terribly tedious and indirect. I imagine it's worth it though?

I wouldn't be surprised if in various post-mortems we will conclude that advising against face masks even though they do 'work' was a mistake. It's understandable that our governments might advise against their use bec

I disagree. It's quite possible that this disagreement is particular to The Netherlands, but we're /steeped/ in US culture. We also 'hate' the US. It's complicated. If you listen to a conversation any thir

Maybe. I used to assume as much, and as a solo developer I think there's a good chance I would pick a non-native solution when necessary. However, not only am I starting to doubt this, I think it's even less of an issue for a star

My experience is that as a technical person with a beefy computer, I am mostly frustrated by the knowledge of how much of a waste these apps are, and how much faster they could start/run on my devices. But a lot of my non-technical f

Possibly interesting fact: the writer of The Egg also wrote The Martian. Haven't read the book, but the film was great and much funnier than I expected.

On my phone I find the regular site difficult to use anyways, so I go with hn.premii.com, which has a dark theme. For those who don't mind using a bookmarklet or using something like TamperMonkey, this bit of js does a pretty good job

I wrote a Chrome plugin that highlights new comments and that allows me to tag users. I spend too much time on HN :P. Was fun to build though, and surprisingly 'useful'.

I think one important difference is that if you call a method, things fail when the method doesn't exist, or the wrong arguments are passed. With message passing, the callee can decide not to respond to a message. Or to respond at a la

To a degree I feel discussing this is a distraction of my basic point (we have become productive enough even in just a few decades to indulge in these experiments). But honestly I think it's a great point. Our taxes did not go down,
