I'm not defending the comment you replied to, but the privacy vs. performance aspect of the browser landscape seems like a reasonable tangent to me. After all, it's not far fetched that improvements like this are partly motivated

In general, I think the web has decent backwards compatibility. With a few exceptions, websites from ten years ago still works fine. The major things that won't work are extensions (NSAPI, Flash, etc) or features that were experimental

Amazing how the only piece of tangible information in that post was how Boom promises to adhere to standards and regulation when it comes to noise levels.

I suspect that the "net" qualifier is doing a lot of important work in that statement. Maybe they are planting a gazillion trees, do carbon capture or regrow coral reefs. Could mean anything really. Plant enough trees and you'

That's an interesting thought experiment. To make it a bit more analogous, posit that Cuba forced a US Puerto Rico-bound aircraft to land in Havana in order to arrest a Cuban journalist. What do you think the US response would have bee

In a thread about the US leveraging diplomacy to sway intelligence and military, the F-35 discussion seems to be well on topic. You might be tired of the horse flogging, but that's not really relevant.

What do you mean when you say "the internet is not fast enough to manage more than [100 people] with anything resembling real behavior"? Is that based on some objective metric, or just based on your experience?

I don't really understand what you are suggesting. If everyone would stop using mainstream frameworks, the result would be endless bespoke ones. As long as programmers want to simplify, innovate and accelerate their work, they're

I'm only bringing up jQuery because the transition from homegrown jQuery madness to React is still a common upgrade path (even more so five years ago). I'm not claiming React is the optimal choice for anything. In many cases it is

I have a really hard time relating to the conclusion of this. In a big React codebase there are certainly a lot of indirection and "artificial" barriers. The React ecosystem is indeed turbocharged and confusing, atleast if you are

I agree, and I've also been called out for doing "stupid" defensive assertions. It's almost certainly not a code-level issue this time though. This whole thing reeks of infrastructure/caching issues.

I'd actually bet against you on that one. They are still stuck with one foot in the startup mindset.

Really impressive! Feature suggestion 1: Maybe you could pre-render a grid of rain drops to get a nice overview of the flow paths and how they converge. Would be cool and interesting. Feature suggestion 2: It might be possible to include ma

Yeah, it's rough. A good thing about VSC is that it's atleast as configurable as ST is, though. You can disable a lot of functionality if you just take the time to read up on the config. You'll never make it as smooth as ST,

Mobile games are indeed 90% crap cash grabs and dark patterns. But given the absolutely immense amount of mobile games available today, those 10 remaining percent still contains an insane amount of good games.

I can relate. Huge fan of ST. I switched to VSC because of some integrations that were not available on ST. I hated it, it was only out of necessity. Everything on VSC just felt... sluggish, compared to ST. There's this barely noticeab

I recently discovered that a friend of mine was a big fan of Sublime. Said friend doesn't do any coding, and isn't at all technical, so I was curious. Turns out that it's used a lot by their circle of colleagues in the editor

It's all good, I enjoy hearing your perspective! To be honest I've never been greatly interested in programming languages as a subject in its own right. As such, and as you correctly assume, I only got into Dart because of Flutter

Thanks for the elaborate answer! You probably have a higher standard on programming languages than I do. I understand that Dart is a very basic language, and comparing it to something almost academic like Haskell will probably make it seem

Of course not. I doubt it ever will. I'm referring to the seemingly common sentiment that working in an office is objectively worse and should be abolished. I just wanted to add some nuance to that.

I understand your point of view, and I respect it. I can't find the motivation to ruthlessly min/max my efficiency like that though. Most people are bound to X hours of work in a day, regardless of raw output. I just think it'
