I think ultimately the highest barrier is looking stupid. I try not to care, like how kids do not and simply try. People underestimate you all the time when you do not speak a language, or do it badly.

one cool feature amazon implements is that if you change the .com for .es (and nothing else) for a product link it will do exactly that. I know it is not automatic but it works.

I agree with your sentiment, but I dont see linux as windows with some compromises. I simply see windows as unusable (only wsl is imo), so anything will be an improvement.
