Don't remind me... The german COVID vaccinations sign-up page being down every time someone even looks at it the wrong way has been a constant news topic over the last few days. Also goes for stuff like election software, getting the b

Developers pay a lot of money to have the privilege to become a part of the Apple ecosystem. The least they can expect is customer service and actual conversation with the people that decide about their livelihoods. That may not have been t

I feel like when saying this, you have to mention that it is(or at least was when I was tasked to do so 2 years ago) notoriously crazy to host an OSM tile/nominatim server for a mid-size country, and even more so for the entire world.

This is even worse than the crazy slowness. I spend 10 minutes to make a detailed bug report, just to have it fall apart after submitting. How does that happen in a software made to show bug reports? Just use standard markdown instead of yo

They are terrible because Apple sabotages the ecosystem that enables them by crippling the necessary APIs in Safari. PWAs can be a great experience, and they already are on android and desktop when they're well done.

You do need to actually "give feedback" to trigger this, which seems a bit far off for a corporate worker - might be why they didn't think this was high impact, of course it should have been higher though.

Mind that this is Zoom Rooms, a "calendar"/meeting room billboard/management tool like that facebook one that was posted here a bit ago[1]. It's supposed to be on 24/7 and I assume they just found that it'

If you use a prosumer version of Win 10, debloating is maybe 10 clicks after a reinstall and a registry script if you want to get rid of telemetry altogether.

Have an UI mode that's optimized for casual users! So many of my relatives ask me where Windows Movie Maker went - it wasn't the most powerful tool of course, but it was so easy to use and arrange videos with, especially for not t

Not sure if you're joking, but this seems a bit idealistic and somewhat bad advice. Especially the "not eating" part.

Just because you don't know, that doesn't mean that it doesn't happen. Breaking NDAs is illegal, and using leaked documentation/SDK code is a very bad look for CFW and emulator developers. Especially when they praise the

A recent leak shows that Nintendo has "stalked" various console hackers with private investigators, trying to coerce them into settling on an NDA. I thought this was very interesting - is this kind of behaviour/planning commo

It has been proven to be a weak point in their implementation with previous exploits, and it's likely to be the case here - it's a good guess at least. Will be interesting to read a write-up.

Google has a very good internal security research team and there hasn't been a high impact/zero click RCE on androids that Google themselves maintain for a while. Considering the recent iOS exploits, you're likely to be a lit

That's basically all of the game industry - from testers to PR to HR to art. When I onboarded at a global AAA game dev place in Japan, I got a separate sheet detailing my rights as a whistleblower - it's lucky to have these, but I

I assume these are a result of bad UX, at least in my personal experience. iPhones used to/will(haven't had the pleasure in a year now) bother you quite heavily if you're at your iCloud storage cap to either upgrade or clean

Seems to me they have a lot of "show this at that time" bugs - I relatively often see UI elements that shouldn't be there or active layered on top of each other as well. Additionally to hands and props disappearing at random.

Safari is arguably the worst browser to do general tests in if you're not making iOS apps, as it has a history of rendering and behaving differently than any other browser. The dev tools are also unusable compared to Chrome.

My 2013 thinkpad on Ubuntu 20 with newest drivers doesn't wake up 1 in 5 tries. It's frustrating, but at least now that I don't have to leave my house anymore, it doesn't matter too much!

I actually think that this is nice. Stories are a quick and easy way to consume light content. And that's really it, you wouldn't be using this for Wikipedia-style articles.
