I don't know if there is a unified playbook, but there are random blog posts. One that comes to mind (disclosure: I worked on the system, mostly after the blog entry) is https://dropbox.tech/infrastructure/courier-

The easiest way to reinstall <strike> iOS Big Sur </strike> macOS on M1 Macs is to treat them as what they really are, glorified iOS devices, and DFU restore the operating system from another Mac with Apple Configurator or

If you are in the US, you can easily buy a prebuilt machine that comes with RTX2060 for $1100-1200. Check Dell/Lenovo or Costco. Buying the card independently is pretty much impossible/uneconomical. If you don't want the rest

The technical details are interesting but the emphasis on "1.7M savings" screams misdirection of resources, considering the salaries of SWEs/ML engineers and more importantly opportunity cost of them to deploy to an optimizat

This is a depressing thought to hear on a site titled Hacker News. Looking back at the past 20 years, I am quite confident it is just a matter of time before people get a couple drivers working fine on M1 systems (esp. considering Apple do

Point is there is (or at least was as of 1.5 years ago) way more negative coverage of Tesla than positive, accuracy aside, which contradicts GP's take. There's been enough outlets to show the bad side and it was the most shorted s

I tried PioSolver free version with identical settings on all machines and targeted a certain exploitation level and compared the time it took to finish the task. Performance on M1 is close to a desktop 3600X (admittedly weak cooler was ins

macOS/CoreAudio alone probably justifies Mac mini before performance comes into play at all. To say Mac mini is cheaper than alternatives matching in CPU performance is however still incorrect, though dangerously close. That’s all.

I used to think that way till I saw Google, which is pretty much the opposite, and now I understand it is important to take into account the cons as well as the pros [I'm still more biased towards the G model but less so than before].

I was comparing M1 to higher TDP chips, yes. If you take TDP into account M1 wins hands down, of course (unless your workload requires more than 16GB RAM). The context of this post is specifically the price-sensitive customer, not a TDP

I am a huge M1 fan but that statement is almost true, but not quite there yet. I have experimented with a number of prebuilt machines with AMD Ryzen 3600X/3700X, Intel i7-10700, and Apple M1. Those (esp 3700X) are often slightly ahead

While true, the closer Darwin is to Linux, it simultaneously eases implementation while disincentivizing doing it in the first place. Rarely you want to run a prebuilt standalone Linux binary on macOS; you just compile it to run on Darwin.
