I've seen it at most places I've worked. A lot of people still use just VIM and the command line only.

I’m not sure about this study but the claim rings true for me anecdotally. I definitely had euphoric religious experiences back when I was a believer that were similar to drug trips I’ve had.

100%. I personally didn't attend a bootcamp, but I've personally watched people go from low-paying jobs that they hate to making well over 6 figures and really enjoying what they do. Life changing is an understatement for them.

To me, it happens when the game was graphically mind-blowing at the time. If, I remember it for that and not the gameplay, yeah, I get that feeling.

He isn't being paid for his work (which I assume you are conflating with labor); he is being paid for the perceived value he can bring to the company. His decision-making can absolutely influence the bottom line far more than any singl

As others have said, now is the time to be risky. If you think that startup will hang around for a bit (1 - 2 years) that will be more than enough experience for you to land the next job. I'm not telling you to job hop, but it is compl

Eating out now is ridiculous. It's extremely easy to spend $100 for a family of four.

Unreal. People are getting robbed in traffic at gun point and there are "bigger" "more violent" issues for the police to deal with?

I’m not stereotyping though; I said if engineers are cynical their is probably a reason. I didn’t say all engineers are cynical or all mangers give them a reason to be. It sounds like you have a disconnect with your ICs if you don’t unders

Meh, engineers tend to be pretty intelligent. If they are being cynical about management then it’s probably founded.

There is value in working in-office… just not enough for me to give up remote work. I, personally, get just as much work done working from home. While I do miss the social aspect of the office, it’s just not worth giving up the hours of com

I think that most work in quantum physics negates that claim. While we are improving our predictive power, we’re still baffled by the underlying nature of reality. We don’t know the “mechanism” by which the quantum world works.

Aren’t our brains just carrying out instructions in a very impressive way? I think the jury is still out on whether or not we actually have any control over our thoughts.

We also don’t have AGI yet either… who’s to say that consciousness doesn’t come along for the ride once you reach that level? We don’t even know why we have consciousness.

It's nothing specific about Elixir itself, it's just that I don't use it for literally anything else (nor do I see that changing). So, for me, it's just another tech stack to keep up with when I could have just stuck wit

I converted my (profitable) side-project to Elixir because I fell in love with the language. While I still like it, that has mostly worn off and I regret rewriting it for the most part.

Not crazy about that quote. It is in fact too late, for example, for my dad to have been a good father. I'm a grown man with kids of my own, that relationship can't be fixed to "what might have been". I get it, I'm
