I think saying 'computation will never be __________' is usually just wrong. We have a decent understanding now of the complexity of a human body, and there's no technical limitation on putting a ton of supercomputers togethe

I was hired from the monthly posts! Firepoint's Phil posted the ad when I was looking for post-grad employment. We chatted, they were exactly as described, and then they flew me out to meet in person. Couldn't have asked for a bet

I disagree, I still very much feel the Facebook brand through this product. The URL, plus the title of the tab, plus the recognizable FB logo next to the primary title of the product, and then it's still called the 'Facebook Gamer

I feel where you're coming from, but in reality it's not like any test suite can guarantee to prevent downtime caused by bad deploys. All it takes is a little networking related bug, something that differs ever so slightly between

What is up with this Reddit-like trend towards drama and immature posts on HN? I don't come on here to see this kind of junk, I come on here to find informative posts on topics surrounding tech. I don't care about your beef with p

Building a larger Electron app myself, thank you SO much for opening up your code. There's a ton to be learned, like you said, about best practices with Electron. I"ve spent so much time shuffling things around and refactoring tha

Sounds like your solution would have been to properly read documentation of critical sectors of your code. Assuming that just calling `.sort()` on your arbitrary data would give you exactly what you want was a mistake. Not testing this code

This story always remind me of this interesting study done on rats, where they found sugar more tantalizing than cocaine or heroine.[0] Take it with a grain of salt (or sugar, if you prefer), since sugar has some nutritional value, but this

The thing about sleep is, it's not a factual, hard science thing. Different people need different amounts. Different people feel better waking up at different times. Having a schedule and sticking to it makes you feel more refreshed. H

I see these posts every so often: "X is hard". Aside from just illuminating the X, I don't really see the point of the posts. Most higher-order jobs are difficult, that's why people train and educate themselves to work i

As someone else pointed out before, this was probably nothing noteworthy. Artists always make multiple layers and improve upon a base, this is just standard technique. This isn't some Da Vinci Code hidden Illuminati story.
