I'm a purist and also need the absolute fastest lookups with out SQL overhead so I go straight for MDB (Sleepycat BerkleyDB) - faster than LevelDB or any others.

"Learning to code" is a lifelong endeavor. You don't pick a laptop and set aside a few hours. You can't do that if you wanted to learn how to write poetry in French while only knowing English.

Facebook started out as a non-algorithmic company, AOL – geocities – friendster – myspace – Facebook – who's next? They have a lot of catch up to do compared to Google, which started as a core algorithmic company in a branch of AI call

They all started as non-algorithmic light-weight technology platforms which were more focused on duplicating the last popular social platform. (BBS'es -> Compuserve -> AOL) This is different from companies like Google for example
