You really want to give anti-vaxxers more ammo over a "potential risk"? But welcome to HN.

You jinxed it, so I'll be the "some comment": prions won't spread everywhere all at once, so humanity will probably self-isolate in at least a few prion-free clusters.

I guess they're anthropomorphizing "the industry", treating all of them as responsible for what any of them do. But to steelman this viewpoint, industry should be unsurprised that consumers are filtering out UTM in the proces

Those addons are very basic, just what I'd have done in 2010 --- before Snowden! Since you have Firefox, you could sync with a community-developed user.js like Arkenfox (previously GHacks) [1], which seems to go much farther and still

As long as you induce it consensually, right? It sure would be uncomplicated, no real third party needed.

Here in Sweden, the train company SJ had tilting trains for the 2000 model and abandoned the concept for the 3000 model, because passengers complained of discomfort, or so SJ said. A small speed boost is not worth tilting the train.

Cui bono: who benefits? This seems an asymmetric affair in favour of increasing Signal's visibility (infamy is still fame) and in reducing people's trust in big tech. A win for privacy team, even if you can debate whether it'

1. What do you mean by self-reinforcing? Self-replicating? 2. I think using the term reproduction for this is stretching the term to the point of uselessness. I mean, for example in a chemical solution you have a redox reaction where molecu

Only some of the Deaf have this strong opinion, although you might meet cliques that are all this way. I'm sorry you've encountered them, but it's something of a non sequitur. It's possible to get hearing and still be in

I actually disagree with #1. I've kept food for months without issue. Like, eggs can be good for about six months past the use-by date. Yogurt for one month past. I bake bread dough and let it rise in the fridge for up to 14 days (lend

Not contradicting you, but I feel you focus too much on defending yourself. This is just HN. The important thing is people know to be wary of keeping garlic oil (even in a squeeze bottle) for a week plus. The rest of the facts (or who'

Well, there were reports a few years ago of people dying from homemade garlic oil. No canning needed, the oil is an anaerobic environment. You just put garlic in oil and let it sit in the fridge for a week and you have a lethal poison.

I agree the scientific consensus is debatable, but I enjoy the way the man turns the policy debate upside down. At the very least, he's helped to de-politickize the debate.

Until you reimplement every language as transpilers to elisp, that's not the same thing at all. In this respect, Emacs is actually in the same tool category as VSCode or Vim. As you'd set up Dev Containers in VSCode, you'd se
