$300 isn't very much when you look at the loaded costs of setting up and running a coop. Offices are expensive. And if not an office, I'm not sure how one would ever create a 24 hour coffee shop. A typical Starbucks lives off of customers w

Indeed, what's so curious about this article is that Starbucks was the poster child for selling the experience versus the coffee, and has been used in many case studies to demonstrate exactly that point.

Spoken like someone who's been there. My first business had fantastic NPVs and enjoyed great economics. Only problem was that it took 6-8 months payback period. That put some serious hurt in our growth. The business is doing nicely and make

I recommend VirtualBox as well. I haven't used Fusion but have used Parallels, and VirtualBox has become my default VM. Being free and GPL doesn't hurt at all.

This is true, particularly for direct marketing agencies, but many traditional agencies are focused more on brand-building than CPA/CPL. Selling to direct marketers is much easier than traditional agencies for this reason. There's a million

I'll ignore the question of IQ as it relates to its relevance to anything. Humans suffer from a phenomenon called cognitive dissonance. It means that if facts contradict what they believe to be true, they will invent reasons why the facts d

Interesting. Is what you might consider "real content" (i.e. longer form, more substance, not popcorn ideas) lost on the web? Or is there still a place for it? I notice that when I write shorter articles it's much easier to get coverage for

I agree. People should write more about specific challenges they had, and how they overcame them. Talk about the tough bank negotiation. Or when your biggest customer threatened to leave. Or didn't pay. Either something controversial or, be

I think it's OK to have some ads on there to defray your costs. No annoying ads, of course, but I'm sure a Valley law firm would be happy to sponsor it. And I think people would be happy to use it as long as it's well-moderated. The only pr

Best advice. It has to hurt people when they type in their credit card details. If it doesn't, it's too cheap. You'll make far more money turning a few cheap customers away while capturing the surplus of people who actually have a serious p

There's three factors here: (1) What does "rich" mean? If it is net worth of >$1bn, it is more common to have taken investment at some point. At $50mm, it is far less common. (2) What does "investor" mean? If it is VC, it's not true at
