I used to, but did something change a while back with how HN handles profiles and upvotes? I just don't see an upvote button...maybe I really, really don't see it? lol

If Apple continues this trend, they can place barriers to parting it out as well. It won't remove all the value, but these practices force everyone to lose. https://www.ifixit.com/News/apple-is-locking-batteries-to

No. Simply no. What is stopping a "criminal" from bypassing this activation lock? Time and technical ability? It surely isn't legal recourse or fear of losing the device. It's a matter of time before this is moot. On top

If I had an upvote button, I would on this response. I was critical of your previous comment, but these are the questions I think deserve an answer for this general concern. Good on you, and thank you for asking them.

That's a bit jilted, no? It might not be the popular stance, or even one the founders philosophically/morally agree with individually. However: - They appear to be forthright with this information. (That's certainly better th

I frequently find myself bouncing between them for development, but lately...I'm not really sure why. FF has everything I need. Even a dark mode (Chrome does too, I think).

Well, playing with SignalR and securing real-time web apps just got more interesting. Along with full-text network panel search--I didn't even know I wanted that!

More fundamental than context, stop telling me your sole purpose is to make money. That's a one-way ticket to turning me off of any attempt to ever increasing my engagement as an employee. Your business exists to solve a problem, which

No. I've had Sr. Soft. Engs. ask me why I thought we needed unit tests at all. I've had managers not know what they were. I've worked on projects where I was the only developer who wasn't afraid of the technology, but ma

Perhaps this makes development on Chromebooks (or similar devices) "more possible". I'm struggling to think of something else though. It sure feels like forward thinking.

Instead of trying to over-simplify things for a nice one-liner: > A server for Node.js that works out of the box with modern Javascript Just give me the more verbose, but more conversational, explanation. > It is a Node.js server with

Big cost savings. For myself, I would have no problem popping it open to replace parts. It would be great to get 5-6 (planned) years of use out of a single device. For family, that I regularly provide "tech support" for, it would

Some people are postulating that subscribers are moving to newer services (i.e. Disney). A slight piracy resurgence is coming around again. A return to the "cable model", but with refined content choice may win out. Already an ave

Why not build on top of Outlook? Gmail is great, but to see this idea really take off I would hope to see Outlook support in the future.

I'm by no means heavily experienced in this, but my current employer has a big demand for this. (e-commerce) First there's the Docker + Kubernetes architecture that ES lends itself to really well. Then (depending on your use-case)

I'm currently learning Python and a little bit of numerical analysis with jupiter notebooks. I currently don't know what I'm doing. Pysnooper looks like it could drop in nicely to give some much needed help.

Any enthusiast wishing to operate their vehicle closer to the engineering limits will most likely flash the ECU anyway (or simply not purchase the vehicle if you lock them out via DRM). On top of that, I drive a 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe (

It's interesting you draw this parallel; I've pondered the same for a while now. After programming for several years, I wonder how I would fare trying to pick up a second spoken language using similar tactics to learning a program

I agree with your sentiment, but there's one piece of this whole thing I have a big problem with. It's my device. I understand Spotify's motivation to want compensation for their great service, but shouldn't I be able to

Great point. Not only that, but the level of disorganization during these operations is probably enough to dissuade this type of tax program.

After serving in Vidor, TX this year...I would love to see this made possible. Further, FEMA has failed Louisiana too many times, and we're fed up with it. That name has become a "swear" in this part of the country.
