I've worked for an asshole company that did that. We reached a stalemate after I managed to use my code ownership clause against them - basically "fuck off or I'll open source all your code".

Welcome to PHP. This is the norm. I worked at an outfit that hired some utter fuckwits who had been recommended by some more fuckwits for something and they did it in PHP and put it on budget shared hosting. A week later: SQL injection, CSS

I think it's more that most of the users are ignorant of the privacy implications.

There's plenty of resources to go around. They'll just have to eat corn instead of beef and lose some lard.

Well actually the first world will rape all the resources, just as it's doing now and the population will sort itself out in the third world, much as it's doing now.

You can poke inside it a bit though using JD-GUI: http://java.decompiler.free.fr/?q=jdgui Illegal or not? I don't really care. Reverse engineering for compatibility is legal here :)

Probably yes, but there is no excuse for incompetence on the part of the ISPs when they ship routers to the customers.

The same goes for smart tvs. Most of them you can push stuff to via dnla without a password. Much amusement to be had.

So within 24 hours, lots of people are going to find out what a goatse is I reckon. Even better, a lot of people in the UK have Thomson routers which have an easily calculable WPA default password. Most of these also have smart tvs these da

Yes we do that as well. All java processes are given a single local user account. They have their own JDK installation as well. We even go as far as creating a new user account, deploying a JVM to it and wiping down during our build process

Now we can expect huge unopenable packaging, price hikes, overheating and zero support from Linksys! Belkin here in the UK used to sell 2m ethernet cables for £20 ( ~ $31). For anyone who wants to bail out and get some decent kit, try Drayt

At the risk of starting a flame war, this is why all my shit is BSD licensed. Like the software, the license isn't a pain in the arse either.

It's basically datasheets.com but somehow even more annoying. I wouldn't trust a 3rd party footprint database either - the amount of times I've seen people fuck up their first prototype by throwing some footprint they found on the board and

I don't see this being a major problem. It's technically been illegal in the UK for years as you don't own the handset until your contract has paid up. However, every handset I've ever had is either "SIM-free" or has been unlocked. I now ho

Yeah 800 inclusive minutes on that deal. I make a lot of calls (650-700 mins a month). £80 before: handset included and crap contract.

Great phone - has a proper flashlight too! My wife has one as her spare handset (she uses an Asha 302 the rest of the time).

My Nokia (C2-01) has never dropped a call. I did a 4 hour call up the East Coast Mainline in the UK with no drops at 120mph :) But spot on to all your points :)

I used to do that with a TravelCard in London in the late 90s. £4 used to get you round the entire city and you can eat well for £4 on top of that. It's probably doubled now. Some out of date Kodak 35mm film (free) and an old Praktica camer

I recently got a Nokia C2-01. Very basic thing that is used for calls and texts and doesn't need charging every half a day. It's also on Giffgaff in the UK so it costs me £20 top up a month for what I was paying around £80 a month for befor

Yes - all our builds are done from zero state i.e. and empty directory. We even deploy a new JVM each time (as we have to test against 3 different JVMs).
