Do you really think Google stands much to gain from scamming Kenyan businesses and messing up Open Street Maps (who, might I add, have received donations from Google)?

Two of the three have come from the same IP address, so it's possible it's the same contractor, and is being handled now. Admittedly, two in the same time period still isn't good.

I don't know how much more Google can do than not contract with them any longer, or make sure that "they are no longer working on projects". They aren't employees, they can't be sacked in the usual sense.

"The point is that any employee of Google can access such data." This is just untrue. Only a handful of people at Google have access to each set of data (e-mail, search, etc.), and their access is heavily monitored and restricted. I assure

Red Hat alone is a pretty poor open source leader in the area, to be honest. The headquarters is mostly support and business, with very little engineering work being done, so they tend not to have much presence. I'm a member of the NCSU LUG

Well, this isn't exploitable if you use a randomized hash function like Ruby 1.9 does. See http://www.ocert.org/advisories/ocert-2011-003.html for a listing of vulnerable languages (and yes, Python is on the list).
