One of the more interesting ways I've seen channels used in Go is a channel of generic interfaces, and then switching based on the type received. https://docs.google.com/present/view?id=df36r82q_5gdq5gzth&#... has an example of this on sl

I would point out that Wolfram Alpha claims gold is at $1577 USD/oz versus $1597 USD/oz on two other gold sites. A big difference? No, absolutely not, but if you want to know the price of gold, you probably want to have faith that they get

Side note: Not even WaPo can seem to get it right. The unofficial slogan is "Don't be evil" not "Do no evil", which is what they have as one of their photo captions.

I wanted something like the TextMate project drawer wrapped around VIM for a long time, until I started using Command-T + ctags. I can't think of the last time I've really wanted IDE features wrapped around VIM since then (except for specia

Except their co-founder signed as the co-founder of the company. I would assume he's signing as a private citizen to say he's signing because he , and not the company he works for, sees it as a detriment.

This is to celebrate 10 billion downloads, so clearly Google hit billions without giving away 10 cent apps too.

Do you have a source for that info? A quick Google search turns up nothing on Microsoft's stance on SOPA.

I pulled the repository and all of the code is very well documented, and easy to read. Really a great resource for learning OS internals.

I have yet to see a new /accessory/ use NFC (really, the only thing I've seen use it is Wallet-like applications and check-in type applications). The desktop dock is still sold by HTC, but the car dock doesn't appear to be. Regardless, they

To be fair, you do get to use all of the new accessories and cables. Plus if you want to run ICS, while Google may not support it, it certainly seems like Cyanogen will have a version for the N1.

I suspect they will not be able to remove the feature as long as it's an official Android phone. My initial guess is that this will be added to CTS, or at least the list of requirements for things that work on Android.

Look at the date on both of those news reports... :) The first article cites the second one, and the author of the second one confirms it's an April Fools joke in the second comment on the page. They haven't dropped it at all.

I'd also point out that basically all tool development is done in the open in AOSP. As you pointed out, it's usually just a matter of finding the people necessary to do code reviews.

There are Android animations [1][2], not sure how they compare to WP7 or iOS though. [1]: http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/graphics/view-anim... [2]: http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2011/02/animation-in-...

What specifically would you like to see in terms of testing tools for Android? I ask this not because I don't think there are areas to improve (there are), but to get a better idea of where improvement is most needed.

Disco was fairly interesting app. Google even came out with a similar product in Huddles. On top of that, they had a fairly successful social app, which I suspect is exactly what Google wanted out of the acquisition (their social expertise)

Why are you convinced that this was a "bail out"? Why is it unsavory if Google thought that the team and its expertise was worth $200M? Google clearly was trying to get into social at the time, and this team did have a lot of interesting id

As I commented above, I was encouraged to find a 20% project while there, and I worked on the Android team. Only a few people on my team had 20% projects, but none of them actually wanted a 20% project as far as I can tell. Anyone that did,
