I think it's both funny and sad that you're doing the exact same thing as the "bad" doctors in TFA and then are on here commenting about it. A quick search on Google Scholar for "caffeine pregnancy" reveals a n

What part of Austin are you in? I unfortunately moved to the yuppie part of east 6th and it’s decidedly less friendly than other places I’ve lived.

Serious question: is there any desirable city right now that doesn't have a housing crisis? A few weeks ago the discussion on HN was about Canada, this week it's about Australia, take your pick of coastal US cities and it's t

Bullshit. The world is absolutely packed with standards that are standards because of nothing to do with being "the best". Perfect example: the imperial measurement system. Another example: logographic writing systems. Another: qw

My point about the 30% rule for rent is that you calculate that based on pre-tax income. I provided median post-tax income, so to get pre-tax you need to know how much people are paying in taxes. I really don't understand your point

Your link was heavy on opinion and light on data, so I went looking for numbers on Canada to verify your assessment. Median income after taxes: $68,400 [1] Median rent (2 bedroom): $2,300 [2] Average tax rate (single worker): ~32% [3] If we

Downtown Austin average rent is around $2,200 now [1]. Average in SF is, what, close to $3,500 now? Landlords everywhere pass along property taxes to renters, but even so, Texas renting is still cheaper than CA by a good margin. [1] https:
