On a side note, I would like to thank the HN mods for allowing this discussion to take place. Previous attempts at discussion were quickly silenced by flagging, and while it's a little weird that a piece on YCombinator just happens to

I'd love to get a discussion going on whether people support or oppose the flagging (and subsequent disappearance) of politically charged topics on HN. While HN is not a politics site, some of these censored topics have been tech-relat

Not sure if you'll see my reply, but this happens often to HN submissions on politically charged topics. The topic gets flagged to death. It's been like this for a long time.

Amen. To add to this: one of the (many) reasons people end up on heroin is because they lose access to pharmaceutical painkillers. It might sound strange, but our restrictive drug policies are actually making the heroin epidemic worse. We n

How is free will not the same as choice? A lack of free will is an inability to exert agency through choosing. Determinism removes the possibility of choosing. If you have no free will, you can't express yourself... nothing you do will

And yet you still choose. You're trying to dissect your agency, but it's too fundamental to be analyzed like that. It isn't a decision-making process: it is the decision itself. Writing that reply to me required a series of d

It would be cool if they provided a public WebSocket that anyone could use to consume events. Related: it would be cool if there was a directory of public WebSockets offering a variety of real-time data streams.

Thank you. The solution is, paradoxically, to increase access to opiates so nobody has to buy on the black market.

It's also possible that antidepressants (and drugs of abuse) numb some part of your mind that's broken due to emotional trauma, and as a result you lose that part of your personality while it heals. Then, when you come off the dru
