If you're talking about writing tests after you've completed the implementation, then I wouldn't pay for those either. :) Test-first development is a practice that helps you design software, and ultimately (arguably) reduces the number of d

I agree, but that also requires a discipline/foresight not all of us have. :) I try to keep my feature branches as atomic as possible, but sometimes I get ahead of myself and work on multiple things that really shouldn't be in the same comm

Programmers are a dime a dozen. Good programmers are somewhat more expensive. If bleeding-edge technology X proves to be widely useful, you have a brief window of opportunity where simply knowing X gives you an advantage. Then you slowly be

The article is dated 2006. I doubt there are many relevant lessons to take away from a discussion of Agile circa 2002-2006. edit: relevant for historical reasons, but less so for 2012, which is what I thought when I read it. [2006] on the t

If I really want to sell my car, and I know it's in good shape, I would be more than happy to arrange an inspection. If the seller wants to avoid an inspection, it's probably because 1) the vehicle is in enough demand (or cheap enough) that

Is this really much different than outsourced projects for huge corporations? Seems like large organizations get charged a premium for the same amount of work. Government can hire technical people who can do the work in house, or who are qu

How about adding [2009] to the title? If I see a popular blog on HN I assume it's at least the current year. I probably wouldn't click through to an old Atwood post.

"You're not reading this article." But seriously, it probably never occurs to bad programmers that they should be finding articles like this. Perhaps a better title/approach would be "A Bad Programmer Taxonomy, And How You Can Help."

Even if the intern is justified in doing so, taking legal/regulatory action might not be the best way to start a career. A company this unreasonable may actually enjoy personal and professional destruction.

I'm sure this is on your list, but design could use some work -- visually it seems a lot like one of those regurgitate-press-releases-as-content type of sites. A new header and actual logo (not text-based and losing the ™) would p

This type of post doesn't really work with the HN format -- not sure what the alternative would be, other than a /whoshiring url or something. If someone posts a job to a week-old post, no one sees it unless it's on the front page.
