I can't find the source anymore, but I once heard a pretty interesting theory: Men use banter as a form of indirect emotional connection. Playing rough with your male friends is like 'bouncing balls off their emotional walls'

To be fair, crypto currencies _are_ more useful than some pretty flowers. You can actually use it to e.g. buy stuff (though most of that is drugs) and to transfer money (though most of that is evading taxes). The use cases discovered so far

The thing I don't like about these 'well people have been complaining about this forever' arguments is that, it's entirely possible to have a) people pointing at an issue for a long time and b) still have that issue get

Also makes sense if you think about it; little opportunity for sleeping was likely an indicator of external stressors during our evolution, so up-regulatibg energy intake during those times seems reasonable.

I suspect this largely depends on where you're coming from. If you are comfortable with C++ and Haskell, Rust probably doesn't feel that hard to learn. But coming from JavaScript or PHP, I can indeed imagine a steep learning curve

Essentially: The mere symbolism of it. People ascribe a bit more meaning to such 'round' numbers, and since you are in a market with other people that do the same, it actually starts to make sense to see them as important markers

After having a look at the logarithmic BTC/USD chart, I'd say it crashed worse in 2014 and in 2018.

That's what I immediately thought of as well; for some reason the people telling SR-71 stories seem to be great story tellers, and despite having read the Speed Check Story probably a dozen times by now, it's hard to resist when i

At least in my case I have to go to quite some lengths so that a sleeping mask doesn't slip off during the night; I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing while asleep to constantly work them off my head, but unless I really tight

Refreshing HN to find more signs of the cryptocalypse has definitely become a guilty pleasure of mine the last few days. I really don't wish for it, because so many people would get caught in the crossfire, but there's still that

That was my takeaway as well. Telling gambling addicts 'no don't go, I've been there and suicide is not the answer. There is more gambling to be done!' is pretty strange. It might be helpful for some people to hear, but

I've researched some more and come upon this article: https://kash-defi.medium.com/why-ust-is-a-superior-stablecoi... I'd be curious to hear whether you still think it's a scam after reading it.

Considering the market caps of other crypto currencies that serve no purpose whatsoever (other than going to the moon, obviously), one could argue that by being interconnected with UST, LUNA is actually one of the more sensible currencies.

You could make that argument about the majority of the crypto-currency universe, yes. I wouldn't consider an algorithmic stablecoin a ponzi scheme, though. People don't buy UST because they expect to be able to sell it to a greate

It looks like this (un-)stablecoin has lost its peg two times in the past. The interesting thing is that's it's an algorithmic stable coin: if its price is below a dollar, you can 'burn' one UST to get $1 worth of LUNA (
