Displaylink doesn't support hidpi monitors on macOS with fractional scaling (unless they fixed it in last month or so). For me this is a deal breaker since I have 27" 4k monitors which IMO work best at 125%-150% scaling

I wouldn't be surprised if that most the biggest reason for so much pushing for 5g - they probably want to get some standard with good deployment/coverage that can handle massive amount of devices per cell before they start to doi

Well, seeing that most desktop PCs are running at 110V or 230V, I think it's quite easy to find something that will run under ~220W or ~460W ;]

Displaylink and/or macOS does not support scaling on hidpi displays for some reason so it's not a good alternative :(

Eh, I have been using latest gen x1 carbon for last year or so that I got from work and recently bough a p15 gen1 for some personal windows usage. I have to say, both machines are terrible. X1 is pretty slow (some 4c i7 with basic iGPU) - r

That is IMO a very shitty experience, why would they do this when they already have an online shop where you can configure stuff? You cant blame people people for not knowing this when such thing is gatekeeped. IMO fuck dell for that approa

We still didn't see Apple desktop m-series cpu And you know, maybe 12900k is 15-20% faster in single core, but cmon - it's 250W tdp cpu vs something that doesn't even need active cooling

I wouldn't be surprised if those statistics are not really worth anything. Like, it's possible they don't take under account people who are contracting, RSUs/options, yearly bonuses and whatever alse companies are offeri

Don't worry, it's not like Amazon is paying like that in the UK ;] US market is kinda special thanks to high concentration of tech companies in SV behind great wall made of Visas/greencard lotteries

I kinda wonder what kind of salaries FAANGs can pay while working remotely right now, outside of US. While in US salaries can be veryy good, for example Google in Poland is known for paying pretty bad

Meh, I don't think that too many things that AWS is releasing are at all relevant for hobbyist because of pricing. I n this case, you need to pay at least 16 usd for running this because of 24h limitation, so for example using scaleway

Is there actually noticably lower latency when going from sodimm/on MB RAM to memory integrated in SoC? I would expect bottlenecks to be somewhere else, not in those few extra centimeters of traces
