I wouldn't be surprised if that most the biggest reason for so much pushing for 5g - they probably want to get some standard with good deployment/coverage that can handle massive amount of devices per cell before they start to doing it at scale. 3g definetly was bad for the, maybe lte is not scaling well enough for having each bulb in the house connected to the network without wifi ;D
