My library has an incredible selection of ebooks I can send straight to my Kindle. The process is less hassle than pirating, too. I get 90% or more of what I read on my Kindle from my library. The only books I buy are from a couple series I

What have you been using for search? The CLI app? What is your download workflow like? Is there an automated way to download a bunch of links, say pulled in from an API?

I have requested my full archive download a couple of times over the last year and haven't been able to get it, which stinks. I keep trying to figure out a migration plan, but it seems daunting, especially with so many archived bookmar

This is speculation: for younger people, apps are the web. I think there is some age/line where on one side, your first instinct is to open the browser on your phone and navigate to a website, and on the other side of the line, you ope

I do the same, along with longer variable names. Every time I went back to look at old code, I am so grateful that I used the more descriptive information.

Definitely get an antenna for local OTA channels. Cheap and great picture quality. Does not even need to be a complicated antenna. We have some plastic square thing draped around a clock on a wall and it works perfectly. We only have one TV

A power drill is my favorite analogy. If I drilled holes once every 18 months, I’d gladly rent from Home Depot. If I found myself doing a weekend project every month, I want to own a drill. That drill comes with the expectation that it has

The mental overhead of renting every piece of software I own would be exhausting, not to mention consistently expensive. Subscriptions come out of a different part of the my budget than purchases do, and it is an ongoing expense I have to f

I have purchased Duplo for three friend’s kid’s first birthday and they have been a hit. Recommended age is 18 months, but 6 months to a year out, they get more use out of my gift than the others. Duplo is also compatible with Lego, which

The LA Olympics are, from what I recall from a Bill Simmons podcast[0], going to be one of the cheapest to host in history. Salt Lake City also continues to use most venues from the 2002 games[1]. Some of the highlights from the podcast on

I used to love to go to Service Merchandise as a kid and watch the boxes/items come out on the belt/wheels. I was oddly fascinated by it and excitedly waited for whatever Mum/Nana bought.

Sports are huge on twitter. It is how I primarily use the platform. I have met up with fans of various teams I support when seeing them play. I’d be really sad to lose twitter and the interactions I get from there.

That is actually relatively low for the NBA. In 87-88, home teams won 67% of games. Baxter Holmes wrote another piece about two years ago about how Tinder, better sleep, and less drinking has eroded the home court advantage in the NBA. It w

Teams kind of do this already. The Spurs were especially famous for “DNP - Old” (DNP = Did not play) at the end of the Duncan/Manu/Parker era. They would leave those guys at home for short road trips and/or back to backs. Thi

Watching ESPN in the browser is a worse experience than ESPN’s app. I have the app on my phone for this. There are reasons to have apps on a phone. That said, it is infuriating that when I click an ESPN link on twitter, it opens in the ESPN

Agree. I no longer read Players Tribune because they killed their RSS feed. Several teams I follow don’t have an RSS feed, therefore, I don’t get news from the official team sites. I don’t even care if the RSS feed makes me click through. G

I agree that Churches are in a position to help, but there are lots of obstacles to overcome. Church attendance is shrinking. Older Churches cost a lot of money to maintain, and even more modern Churches still are not free to operate. In th

Until roughly a decade ago, the risks of football were under-disclosed. This includes nefarious actions such as the NFL buying their way into medical journals to refute claims that football leads to brain injuries. Arguably, the 2015-16 roo
