PNaCl isn't Javascript.

At the moment, PNaCl supports pthreads-style threads and asm.js does not. Also, Native Client, but apparently not PNaCl, supports SIMD, while asm.js does not. Of course, both PNaCl and asm.js are evolving, so asm.js may be able to eventuall

Most asm.js is generated using Emscripten, which is also based on LLVM. I guess the backend optimizations will be different.

It is based on LLVM, but presumably they have to modify it for their particular needs. The PNaCl bitcode reference manual goes into more detail: https://developers.google.com/native-client/dev/reference/pn...

asm.js does not turn off garbage collection. Instead, programs written in this style do not allocate many objects, so the garbage collector does not need to run much. asm.js programs allocate a single giant block of memory, and then do thei

Horse_ebooks was the inspiration for other novelty Twitter accounts such as horse_js ( https://twitter.com/horse_js ) which is somebody taking quotes related to JS out of context, and horse_esdiscuss.

Team Fortress was a mod for Quake, and Valve hired the mod team to build the sequel based on Source. That doesn't make it less of a major development.

In "general" under "preferences", you can select whether the browser restores tabs from last time it was exited. Maybe that somehow get set to something besides "Show my windows and tabs from last time"?

On an 8gb machine, the browsing being bogged down probably doesn't have anything to do with memory usage. To figure out what is making everything slow, you need to use the built-in profiler with Nightly. I was able to use it to track d

If you have a lot of tabs open, you are going to use a lot of memory. Lazy tab loading helps after a restart, but there's unfortunately no way to just tell a tab to go away until you click on it again.

asm.js is not a redesign of JS from the ground up, it is an evolutionary step in improving support for a certain style of Emscripten/Mandreel generated code that Google is at least somewhat interested in, given its inclusion in the Octane b

It is my understanding that Google uses separate domains like doubleclick.net for serving ads, not google.com, so they won't gain any particular advantage there. Of course, that could change.

With or without FirefoxOS, people are developing web apps. If somebody has a nice web app already, maybe they will look into whatever little bit of adaptation is needed for FirefoxOS.
