Overtone looks fantastic, and I've been meaning to really look into it for a while now. It seems to be an active project with a lot of momentum. I was writing something similar in Clojure, but more directly musically focused rather than on

Nothing's for everyone. No technique, workflow, programming language, business methodology, or idea applies to everybody. No post on HN will ever resonate with everyone. Take that as a given, because every post could just as well have a dis

It's all really cool, interesting work. I'm at Game Closure now too, and I can attest that it's great fun. If you're at all interested in this sort of work (or play!), give Tom a shout.

I like to live in a fantasy land where everyone understands the basics of how the Internet works. The reality that many people don't have the faintest idea how to use a computer beyond the very, very basics -- and probably never will -- is

Right. A community exists for people who make their own book scanners: http://www.diybookscanner.org/ , but book scanning is really quite tedious and hardly worth it unless you really need one book a lot . There were previous discussions

I was wondering the same thing about Bitcoin itself. If Bitcoins took off, wouldn't they run into a scaling issue too?

I think it only looks weird here because the text looks dense and unapproachable. Too much text, too little visual breaks. Justification is only accentuating that problem.

I'm no expert, but Sony must be able to decrypt the card information in order to use it to process payments. So even if the card numbers were encrypted, it's possible hackers could obtain the passkey for decrypting the data, if it was also

One of the things that draws me to functional programming* is the relative freedom from side-effects. A poorly designed, tightly coupled system begs to be rewritten, but doing so would come at an enormous cost. If a system is designed to sn
