As far as social networking sites go, I think Facebook has done well: They maintain the largest database of former/current contacts available, while encouraging a "real name" policy so that I always know who I'm talking to (as opposed to a

I don't watch old-school cartoons much, but I do enjoy shows like Family Guy, which has quite a bit of absurdity itself.

If Apple's proprietary tendencies ever catch up to it, at least we'll have something guaranteed to be free (Linux) and of continually-increasing quality. Despite Apple's flaws though, it still makes great software thus far.

At least with web-based iPhone apps you can use something like Fluid to create a site-specific browser to view the iPhone version of websites on your desktop.

Yeah. Well, look at it this way... if anyone asks about Erlang again, we can just point them to searchyc and they'll have all the info they'd ever care to read. I still have "Programming Erlang" sitting on my shelf... I'll get to it someday

I didn't really notice, though I saw that PG mentioned he might. Unfortunately that's just a short-term bandage; hopefully PG will come up with a more long-term solution for growth. HN will keep on growing, slowly but surely, unless PG choo

Interesting, thanks. I actually didn't switch to Mac until a year or two ago, and previously I had a tablet PC. I really liked Microsoft's approach to ink, but alas I couldn't read my handwriting. Plus the laptop itself had poor battery lif

I would be surprised if many actually prefer Windows over OS X or Linux (in our demographic at least). I use Windows only to test for IE. If I were to develop a new desktop application today, I would either develop for Mac exclusively or

With the LGPL, you can keep your own code closed-source, but you must dynamically link the QT library. That means that your program must require QT's DLL file to run. If your program still works without QT's DLL file present on your system,

That's a good idea, but when I bought a laser printer (a Brother) last year, I was disappointed with its quality. (Seemed dim and/or pixelated.) Any recommendations for a reasonable laser?
