No, not cheating. I play [jazz] piano, so I'm used to hearing intervals and stuff (Useful when comping for solos). So I visualize it like this: Lower tone: Eb, F, or G Upper tone: C, D, or E So as the note's played, I tried to v

That's awesome fun. Tip: Try to hear the intervals -- the lower pitch distinguishes between rows, while the higher pitch distinguishes between columns. If you can learn to differentiate between the two pitches, it's easier to map it to the

If only it were all that easy. Though I suppose a little work is better than the coffee cup exploding because we forgot to free some memory for the toaster.

I've tried to ⌃⌘D a word in a real book before. Also caught myself searching for ⌘Z after spilling something.

Lots of success stories from TextMate to Vim/Emacs lately. That's on my list too; I just need to force myself to make the jump (and allow for the short-term productivity hit).

Is this likely to cause any change of course? Does the FCC's inquiry have enough weight to spur a different stance on the issue?

Voice expresses more emotion, but it will never be able to match text in raw consumption speed. Instead, I'll bet that voice transcription picks up. People who prefer text will be able to get it from a voice transcription.

In writing, two forces oppose each other: the desire to be authentic, and the desire to gain readership so that authenticity can be valued. It's really hard to achieve both goals. One can be really authentic, writing what you care about wit

I'd love to be able to pick a couple channels (Discovery, History Channel, SciFi[1]) and pay for them as online streams. I have no use for 60+ channels; I only like a few. [1] "SyFy", I guess now, which just seems strange.

If you ever have time or inclination to share it, I could use a good cheat sheet. The closest I have now is "Objective C for C++ programmers", but it's not short enough to be a useful cheat sheet.

Twitter should just obviate the need for URL shorteners, and make URLs take up only a certain number of characters for the tweet. Then, display them through HTML with ellipsis or something, but keep the HREF pointing to the real thing.

This is a prime example of the pitfalls of shortened URLs. Short URLs are pointers -- don't rely on them to point to the same thing (or a valid thing) forever.
