I have worked with a few people who later joined Google. They were OK but not the best people I have ever worked with. So don’t believe that “the best people work for FAANG’s”. It’s BS hype.

Super productive people usually only work a few hours a day. The rest of the time they think about how to solve the problems more efficiently with more automation and less work. Doing the thinking part properly can make the difference bet

Yep. There is no such thing as a “cost center”. It either is needed to generate a profit or shouldn’t be there at all.

Don’t worry about it unless you are joining one of the hundreds of hyped AI startups that will go broke the moment they run out of VC money.

I for one am super happy that I now have access to world class talks, documentaries, and instructional videos on YouTube. Don’t complain about bad content. Instead choose to only watch the quality stuff.

You mean the way Erlang does it? You can replace code while the system is running. In a few lines of code.

Here is what works: 1. Maintain a To Do list for the project. 2. When a developer is available, he/she/it will pick the highest priority task to work on. 3. Use the To Do list when negotiating new features with stake holders. They

Nope. I have taken over large Java applications with zero documentation and managed to get up to speed maintaining it fairly quickly. The static typing is a huge help.

You have to understand that most Americans are indoctrinated to believe that America is “the best” from the moment they are born. I have lived and worked in the US, Europe, and Australia and can truthfully say that you have won the lottery

If you believe that then I have a “magic programmer box” to sell you. For the low special price of $9999 I will sell you a black box with a button that will automatically write world class code for you in less than a second! Think abo

It isn’t. Programming today is so much easier, in every single way, than it used to be 40 years ago when I learned how to program. I am pretty sure that people making a living today, programming by copy-pasting code from Google searches,

I highly recommend reading “Body by Science”. I more than doubled my muscle strength spending less than 20 min a week in the gym.

It’s simple: 1. Reduce your consumption of carbs (not just sugar) as much as possible (below 50g a day). 2. Increase your consumption of fibre. 3. Eat real unprocessed food as much as possible (eat the apple instead of drinking apple juice)

I always end up working more on the tool for making X than actually making X when working on my own stuff. It’s just more fun :)

It is always the individual when they have a choice. The moment you start blaming society or the gods or whatever you have basically given up.

I am a male and I am sick and tired of seeing males moan about how hard they have it and that they would rather play video games all day long than work to improve their future. Grow a spine, put on your big boy pants, and get to work! The a

Watch the videos on the YouTube channel “Low Carb Down Under”. Just watch one video a week (45 min a week). It will give you all the info you know to improve your diet step by step.

Read “Body by Science”. That will take care of your physical body. Spending 15 min a week. I have so far doubled my muscle strength by following it.

I understand. But let me note that I spend maybe 1 hour a week looking after and optimising my long term investments. So it isn’t a time burden. The “one clever trick” is to invest 10% of your monthly income in long term investments (index

What nobody seems to understand is that all software and all digital hardware are state machines. So thinking in state machines makes it possible to clearly think about software. TLA+ is an example of this thinking applied to modelling

Google is a glorified ad company. That’s it. Nothing else. Nothing new. Nothing special.

You absolutely can. TLA+ is basically a state transition system. Something you can write in Dafny and prove correct using its Refinement types. And the end result is running software you can drop right into production.

The problem with TLA+ is that you still have to hand translate your solution to C++/C#/Java/… Using Dafny (for example) gives you the advantages of TLA+ combined with proven correct running code.

I wish governments would heavily penalise companies that doesn’t take data security seriously. The threat of heavy fines is the only thing that will make large corporations do the right thing.
