Beats me. Maybe they are too big to notice? Or don't care? I've done this more than once (and I don't take many Ubers). I end up paying less and the driver makes more money, so everyone is happy.

I've done this. The driver cancels your ride and you pay cash.

I've nothing against women in the workplace, but I do think it sucks that in most families both parents are forced to work in order to make ends meet. Universal childcare is the worst of both worlds - you miss out on all those special

For the same reason that in the winter the weather people tell you the temperature, but then are sure to include the windchill factor (which makes it sound worse). In the summer they tell you the temperature and be sure to include the &quo

Oddly, NYC is archipelago city, and the only way from Long Island/Brooklyn/Queens to New Jersey is via Manhattan, hence the congestion. I guess one could take the huge detour via Staten Island, but the Verrazzano already has a bi

But then we end up with the OOM Killer, which is awful - randomly kill the biggest process because "reasons".... It would be better if the OS could say no.

I never heard of the Boots Theory before now, but I don't think it applies to the MTA. They buy the top of the line. And will build their own parts if it doesn't exist. It's not unusual for subway cars to run for millions

A lot of the MTA's budget is spent on interest on their debt (about $4 Billion / year). Page 23 of your report shows they currently have about $45 Billion in outstanding bonds. A cursory view seems to show about $6 Billion is to

lsblk is super helpful and I've used it many, many times since I found it about 5 years ago. inxi is a new one for me. Command usage / knowledge depends on what you need and why.

Agreed, I've also been burned doing stupid things like this and always print out the commands and check them before actually doing the commit. As they say, measure twice, cut once. Don't feel bad, I think every professional in IT

It's not popular vs unpopular, it's politics. Climate science is super politicized in this country. Google is a progressive entity who claims to offer a balanced view but instead works as a bad actor and favors one point of view

I do the same with Dropbox. I've been doing this for years and it's saved me a number of times. I don't know if there are flaws with this but it's worked better than anything I've cobbled together myself.

I thought the same about Free/True NAS until I lost a ton of stuff. Be careful with these. Also, for big backups the performance has been terrible. I carefully followed their guide and the write speed is just dismal.

I find the Apple watch to be super annoying. Out of the box it reminds you to breath, stand up, go to sleep, etc. Like I was never able to do these things before by myself. Once I turned everything off it's a bit more reasonable doi

Morgan Stanley pays their bonuses at the end of the year. Very few will quit in August. Only the ones who were on their way out anyway. Most will work hard to find jobs between now and December when they receive their "bonus".

I think it is to make it harder for the end user to circumvent copy protection. You could just make a xerox copy of the manual and give it to your friend, but it's hard to xerox a plastic trinket.
