Electrons are the majority charge carriers for NPN vs holes in PNP which does mean that NPN transistors are faster, they also are usually a _bit_ better than PNP in other specs (beta, etc). However I don't think this was the main part

Is this not a problem with, for example, L3 cache that is shared across cores? Is there something inherent about it that makes timing attacks impossible or is it just that we're seeing people go after lower hanging fruit?

Does anyone have a tech brief on why SMT is more dangerous than any other type of shared resource? i.e. There are several resources that are shared between cores on a CPU, is there something inherent about SMT that makes the resources it sh

Yes, but the two are intertwined. You often can not get a flac file from source with the same mix that was put on vinyl, just the unfortunate reality of it. This is exactly what I'm saying, people will say that vinyl "sounds bette

There are objective reasons to favor vinyl even today. The 'audio quality' if measured in terms of SNR is objectively much worse than any modern medium, however the mixes used for vinyl tend to not be compressed to death so the dy

You're largely ignoring the primary differentiator in these machines, the power class of the CPU/GPU. If you use the base model in each category, set all the machines at 256GB disk and 16GB of ram and use geekbench cpu numbers as

Most likely they all support 64GB of RAM. What has allowed Apple to offer 64GB is that Samsung released 32GB SO-DIMM modules this summer based on their new 10nm process. It's still almost impossible to find them aftermarket though.

There isn't much practical difference. MySQL's memory cost is lower, largely due to using a thread per connection rather than a process, so you can have a larger number of connections before running out of memory. But this really

This should make for an interesting test of the level of anti-Apple group think out there as this is the same fundamental issue that caused the 2018 MBP fiasco. MBP power limit was set too high, this laptop has it set too low.
