While this is an important patent I believe MS went after Android manufacturers for around a dozen patents[0] so I'm not convinced this ruling alone is going to have a large impact on the royalty agreements. [0] http://www.n

I don't think this is true at all. How many unskilled laborers does a single corn combine harvester + skilled operator replace? How many unskilled laborers does a single skidder/tree harvester with a skilled operator replace?

Most 'white noise generators' aren't producing white noise. White noise has equal power in each linear band, e.g. 100Hz to 120Hz would have the same spectral power as 19,000Hz to 19,020Hz. Humans hear in a logarithmic fashio

In general I think you're right but I'm not sure why you would have 5,000 connections to each node. There isn't any reason I can think of to maintain more than 1 connection per client (application process) to each node. You d

Presentation is always important. It doesn't matter if it's a scientific paper or blog, presenting in a clear and intelligible way is critical to communication in all forms. As for the content: I've dealt with numerous develo

The original developers all departed in 2003/2004, winamp has been maintained / extended by whomever AOL could find to work on it for about a decade now. That doesn't bode terribly well for the current state of the code base.

You can get up to DDR3-3000 from what I've seen but performance varies with application. The problem is that throughput isn't the only important metric, latency determined by the timing specs of the module are also very important.

I find that HN has a slightly different version of worship. Posts by some folks such as PG get auto-voted to the top, but at the same time quite often the replies to the post are far different than on other sites. To use PG as an example I

For what it's worth, mp3s do not store the signal as a DFT. The frequency domain data is produced as a MDCT (modified discrete cosine transform). A DFT is performed during MP3 encoding, but it's used to apply the psychoacoustic mo
