Is UX a nightmare on desktop right now? Nearly all desktop/laptop computers can have their OS changed to different one. There is technically nothing stopping mobiles form working in the same way.

I think that "dynamic linking and all its problems" imply that some of the bloat comes from the dynamic linking itself. At least that's how I read it. I believe argument here goes beyond the sole fact of introducing dynamic l

It does address the question indirectly. The implicit argument is that the size of duplicated common parts may be lower than size of single instance of everything that is bundled in OpenSSL. There is no proof however if that's the case

Unity is default, not only supported desktop environment. I haven't tried all availalbe environments but getting rid of Unity for xfce is just `apt-get install xfce4`, and it's the same for more exotic options like xmonad.

Not surprisingly, the sum of two lists is just as nice in Haskell: zipWith (+) a b ... and things get a little bit hairy with three lists: zipWith3 (\x y z -> x + y + z) a b c ... which is still nice but for four lists

Most of the C++ features does not require compiler to add anything extra to the binary, there are however some exceptions from this rule, e.g. exceptions (no pun intended) and RTTI. The biggest problem with using full C++ as C + <small s

int(foo) and (int) foo(int(x), int(y)) are not legal syntax in C. However, they are in C++ [0], which is my whole point. [0] your method declaration has a small problem, it apparently cannot have parenthesis around returned type.
