Isn't that pretty common? "A rising tide lifts only the boats of a privileged few"?

It takes me around 4 weeks to figure out if someone can grow or not. There are exceptions though. Some people are almost traumatized by previous jobs so they need some time to learn that it's OK for them to grow.

Another factor is that by mentoring my own output goes down a lot. If I get interrupted several times a day to help then I get nothing done on my own stuff. I think on overall it's still a big gain for the team but I look worse.

You can't compare creation of a communist government to unionization. This makes no sense.

“Socialist” is a meaningless label by itself. In the US they call Sweden and Venezuela “socialist” although they are totally different countries. " Even if it's not a full-scale war, it's still a move toward it (and quickly).

There is also the story of Amazon mandating that all internal systems communicate with each other through APIs. I think leadership at Amazon has good technical knowledge so they can develop these strategies and see them through. In my compa

There was a time when nobility was complaining about peasants who wanted to have a say in how the country is run.

The worst is that with the secrecy about compensation you don’t have enough information to negotiate effectively whereas the employer has full information.

I hate this straight jump to warnings of socialism whenever somebody questions the current system. There is much more nuance. In Germany workers get a seat on the board of directors and from what I know these companies still make the owner

Employees share responsibility for the success of a company so they should also have stake in the company. This whole idea that a company exists exclusively for the owners doesn’t make sense to me. There is a bigger picture to make a societ

Agreed. If you don’t have the discipline to maintain libraries and their interfaces then you won’t have the discipline to maintain micro services either. I am sure there are good use cases for micro services but using them to compensate for

When I took my MacBook to France I noticed this too. It was enough to make me really nervous. Never noticed the tingly feeling in the US.

Just looked up Dropbox stock price. Not exactly pretty. This is not the 90s when the retail investor could make money from tech stocks. SNAP is bad, Dropbox doesn't look good. Neither does Lyft.

Very funny. I also am often in a discussion where I develop some theory about something and only after a while start thinking "Huh? What am I talking about? This makes no sense.". Happens to the best of us.

I have heard that too. By raising an issue you may delay some deals so they may choose to pay you off just to get rid of you. But obviously there are no guarantees and hiring a lawyer may cost money.
