They grew under Ballmer almost every quarter. Yes, they missed opportunities but by any standard it was a highly profitable and successful company.

I think they are in danger of neglecting Windows too much to the point of people leaving the platform. I personally wouldn't recommend Windows anymore. And almost nobody who isn't using Windows will use azure or .NET Core.

In what way was MS sinking under Ballmer? Maybe they were not exciting but they were super profitable every year. I think it's more about better PR. Not everything is golden at MS now either. I am working on creating a platform for our

I think the problem is what to do with these people if there is nothing to certify. Or how to ramp up with when suddenly there is a lot to certify. Companies know what they are planning so they adjust verification headcount early. A governm

It really should be made illegal to put TVs and other noise making devices into the public space. I don’t understand why it’s acceptable to put that stuff everywhere. It’s basically visual and auditory littering, not much different from thr

I would love to be able to include pictures and diagrams in comments. If it was in a text format like HTML or JSON it would source control nicely. The IDE could then display and allow editing them.

Capitalism can have many forms. It’s worth and necessary to think about how to implement it.

You could probably achieve this with an IDE that understands your rich text comments (maybe code them in JSON or base64 binary). To me it seems like a pure presentation problem.

As a German I have very mixed feelings about von Braun. On the hand he was an impressive engineering leader but he was also a war criminal that used slave labor under terrible conditions without hesitation. I would have prefer him going to

I really think they need to reduce regulation so people can do creative stuff again. There used to be six wheelers or turbo vs non turbo but now it’s kind of boring. Maybe someone wants to try all wheel drive? Adrian Newey has been complain

Doing things behind others’ backs is generally unethical. This decision should have been made in the open.

There is another thread about a Code of Ethics for developers. This is an interesting case study. In many ways what they did was unethical but the result was probably positive overall. How do you deal with that? Ethics is hard and very depe

We should have stopped at the Agile Manifesto. Everything following it made Agile worse. In the end companies will almost always regress to a top down hierarchy. True Agile is bottom up which is against the structure of most companies.

No. I work in medical and progress is much slower. In a lot of tech you can try something and get immediate feedback. In medical you have to wait for years and spend a ton of money.

Some people will think creating weapons for defense is an ethical thing to do. I prefer not to do that but I think the point is valid and there is no clear way to determine what’s ethical and what isn't.

I am usually not averse against regulation but one advantage of tech is that it's still the Wild West where it's possible to innovate quickly and change things. Lawyers and doctors are in much more controlled environment where not
