With JS it’s pretty much the same. It’s standard library is so weak that you pretty much have to write your own.

The IT department in my company is full of “senior architects” and “principal architects” who are very pleasant talkers but don’t do anything from what I can tell. They have a ton of stories how they helped others but whenever I needed some

I have been in this situation and you have to strong nerves. You always expect to be sent home any time soon.

Happens all the time. We can hire only at certain times when budgets open, so you go ahead and hire but you have no time to deal with the person. It’s better to have the person sit around until you have time because the alternative is losin

When I did more PHP I quickly ended up writing my own sort of standard library with consistent functions and unit testing. It doesn’t really take much time and makes things much more predictable.

In film you have a chance to be a real freelancer. You have a track record and you can jump between different productions. You can work your way up. An Uber driver has none of this. He will always stay a driver, never move up, have no reput

It's not like it will disappear after 2035. Some adjustments have to be made like probably raising the retirement age but that doesn't mean that the system doesn't work.

Are annuities regulated? It seems a pretty straightforward business model to take in payments for a few years and then declaring bankruptcy.

Should we then stop worrying about child predators, terrorism, property theft and rape because in the big picture we will all be dead soon anyway?

When I look at the (male and female) C*O and EVP of my company I would say height definitely plays a big role. The women are around 5'8" or taller and the males are > 6ft. there are exceptions but in a lot of meetings I have se

I wouldn't mind a defined pension. It's easier to plan for and also I think more efficient. With a 401k you have to save up a boatload of money just in case. If you live too long you may run out of money, if you don't live lo

I guess it would be better if there were independent pension funds that are regulated accordingly.

The mission details were quite different so there would have been no time for training. In addition they tried to rotate the crews and not rely on a few people.

Seems it goes up during bad times and then down during good times. Makes kind of sense. Pop music often tries to be counterculture.

Any other organization with that behavior that is not a church would already have been shut down worldwide and leadership would be in jail. I hope that believers will put pressure on the church to clean up its act.

You need the backing of somebody who can pay for lawyers. I am sure that amazon is ready for such a challenge.

“employer made the choice on the best provider they could get at the best wholesale price.” Best for the employer, not for the employee. In addition when you start a job you can’t really evaluate health insurance choices.

Yes. It disrupts market forces that may exist. As employee you have pretty much no choice and the incentives for employees and employees are totally different.

That’s only true if you run a real business. If you do delivery for amazon or drive for Uber most likely your margins are too low to hire someone and I would expect them to have something in the contract that forbids this.

A lot of these risks apply to today’s cars already. If you change a tire and aren’t careful the wheel may come off later in traffic. I think there is way too much downside to companies maintaining tight control after selling something. Othe
