Yes, apologies for the less than satisfying conclusion. I am planning a part 2 of this post where I hope to actually answer the question. In the meantime the discussion on lobste.rs includes some lower-level speculation: https://

Hmm, couldn't it be possible to encrypt the file contents in the browser and provide a download link with a secret key in it? I wonder if this kind of service could be implemented without needing to trust the host at all?

Huh. Does anyone know how it works without additional privileges? I ran syd as a normal user on my system and it blocked network calls. Does it fall back to ptrace? I don't think my user has the ability to create network namespaces. ed

I weep for this period of time where we don't have sticky disks readily available for builds. Uploading the layer cache each time is such a coarse and time-consuming way to cache things. Maybe building from scratch all the time is a go

Is there a story about what mobile access might look like? Would be good to have some kind of access on the go even if the macOS app is the daily driver.

hopefully depot will reply, but from my perspective it is mostly laid out on their homepage. they are comparing against builds in other CI products that use network-backed disks, virtualized hardware, and don’t keep a layer cache around. De

Yes, please do what Depot does and put fast persistent disks close to builds to cache docker layers. Github action runners and circleci and all the others adding expensive network calls to manually cache layers has always been such a time s

Maybe "picking alpine images because they are small without thinking deeply about it" is the mistake here? Debian images can end up using a lot of apt-get tricks to install dependencies cleanly. Way easier with alpine. I think the

Isn't this what you want? You are reliably linking to the specific dynamic libraries you are compiling against. Or was the issue that you expected them to be portable? Or use commonly known dynamic library locations?
