Django is so slow to fix the obviously broken stuff. Django must be the slowest moving project I've ever interacted with.

How can you even have 1000 people designing a chip? A micro-processor is not THAT complicated. Perhaps you can have people doing research on particular aspects, but research teams are typically small (maybe 5-15 people). It seems to me di

Tesla is not luxury. It's an expensive car that does not look good and needs many hours to recharge. It's not faster or better than other cars, it's just needs longer to recharge. If you are paying $80k for a car, you don't care about fuel

Tesla is going to be one of the first indicators the bubble burst. The tesla cars are overpriced, inconvenient, and they do not look particularly nicer than other cars in their segment. Tesla is just a game for financial speculators to make

America is still a deeply segregated society. And the segregation is built in such a way that it tends to keep people where they always where.

There are very many such stories, but most of the people are not very fond of writing (the examples above are people with a lot of written output). If you get to know some of the people personally you will find a lot of successes.

Let's compare it to the iPod, for example. Before the iPod, I played music. After the iPod, I played music - but in a more convenient way. After this app, I can search my statements in a convenient way. The problem is that right now I am no

I don't get it. I don't get the point of it. Searching through a list of things? How is that making my banking simpler? It seems to have turned into a credit card statement search & visualisation engine.

So what am I going to use for my HN replies notifications and my retweet notifications now? I always liked notifo, and this is a sad day for software.

Yes, but don't you get it? AFTER the exodus from Africa, the two populations were living in the same region (europe), but did not inter-mix at all anymore. Otherwise there would be more DNA in the europeans. Why mix when in the middle east

Okay, then explain this: There is no fossil evidence of neanderthals in east asia or australia. There is a lot of fossil evidence of neanderthals in europe. If humans mated with neanderthals, then why is there no stronger presence of neande

Let me tell you the truth, though this will not be popular: Django is not a good framework. It's clumsy, inflexible and restrictive. The community is pretty much dead. If you want to work in ruby, go for ror. If you want to work in python,

The problem with hate mail is that it's a lot more affecting than positive mail. The best way to deal with it is simply to smile and delete. Everyone is entitled to their opinion - but they are not entitled to change _your_ life.

Medicine is a game of probability. If you have malaria symptoms in a malaria area, the chance of you having malaria are around 99%. Every other disease with similar symptoms (e.g Typhoid) is pretty rare. When it comes to peoples lives, peop

The report is completely disconnected from reality. Malaria patients often have very clear symptoms, and at the point where a diagnosis is necessary, a blood test WILL have to be done. Malaria is a very common disease, and there are very cl

The people who need to diagnose it are in a hospital, where they can just use one of many methods. They don't need to to peer through an android lens. Laymen rarely need to diagnose malaria because the symptoms are very very clear.

If the scan can be expanded to other blood-borne diseases, it could potentially be useful. But it's pointless for malaria. Malaria is a bit unique among diseases in that it's a parasite and not a virus or bacteria. I'm not sure this method

You still don't get it. It's not neccessary to diagnose for malaria via blood. Malaria patients know they have malaria in almost all cases, because they are familiar with the disease. As soon as the symptoms show, they take the tablets. If

The sad part is: This app is basically useless. Malaria has very distinct symptoms. Malaria also has a 3-day pre-roll period where you know you are about to get malaria, but you are not yet in bed. Also, Malaria is the #1 drug every chemist

The real problem is what happens if Kik is not installed on either end. The hassle that the user would go through to get it working is something that probably 95% of users will not bother with, unless what they were sharing were extremely c
