Meta is giving up on the (impossible by design) task of policing their own platform. The result will be even more poisonous to users. Just like cigarette companies using chemicals in the papers so that they burn slower. Does it improve the

How does this connect to Gelsinger's retirement, announced yesterday? The comments on that news were all doom and gloom, so I had expected more negative news today. Not a product launch. But I'm just some guy on HN, what do I know

If I'm reading this right, they were able to build a certain kind of polyurethane that is easier for enzymes to break down. Neat, but won't do much to help recycle any plastic that has already been manufactured, I'm afraid.

I'm having trouble understanding the use of v8. It can be pretty much any bits as long as it has 1000 in the right spot? It strikes me as too minimal to be useful. I must be missing something

The Rust team prioritized keeping the standard library small, and allowing important but inessential functionality to live outside the stdlib and keep their own release schedule. MS has massive resources and can align the many many modules

I am not getting a good sense from the website of what is special or unique about Shen. The top line feature (above the actual list of features) is the presence of an "S series kernel" which as far as I can tell is Shen-specific.

So, to get decent (market rate) compensation from Meta, you need 1-3 job offers of similar prestige and comp level. But if you have those, why would you ever take a job at Meta?

Great outcome for La Colombe! The quality of their cafes in Philly have been going downhill for a while and this move won't halt that. But if there's one thing we have enough of here it's coffee shops.
