Male suicide and depression is a big problem. I recommend some Bell Hooks (rest in peace) if you want to dig deeper into the problem (link below). But I think you as well as I know that the problem isn't slurs against men. Great passag

Category theory, type theory, and HoTT are all a joy! Worth checking out, especially if you didn't enjoy math in school.

Bitcoin demonstrably has value. In fact all value is socially determined (I didn't say "arbitrary"). Whether bitcoin is a "fraud" or not is obviously a different issue.

Excellent recommendation. I'll add Designing Freedom by Stafford Beer as a great intro. Available as a book and a series of free lectures here: https://www.cbc.ca/radio/ideas/the-1973-cbc-massey-lectures-...

Subversion: Functional programming is popular because it's intuitive! Perhaps "immanent" or "diagrammatic" is a better word than functional. I mean that a function _is_ what it does, but not so with a procedure. One

Love to see Bataille and Heidegger on hn :) The concept of the accursed share seems pretty applicable to space races of the present. Maybe it's a sign the flux of capital is saturating?

We have so much to learn from cybernetics, especially in the infancy of blockchain. How does one design a flourishing economy and maximize outcomes for its members? I recommend checking out Stafford Beer's lectures on cybernetics: htt

What's hilarious about auto-generating the GPL license is that it's provable Copilot is trained on GPL code, but it's essentially impossible to tell which code it came from. Any legal battle will be strange... Is it enough fo

Incredible! I have a toy webaudio livecoding project that I've been dying to get working efficiently in VST-form. Looks like Elementary could be a great way to do this.

Commodity fetishism, what an example! I expect NFTs to be a trend. It's much easier to fetishize a physical commodity than a digital one. What you're paying for is the imagined blessing imbued by the creator and access to the cont

I wish the music community had more mainstream open source DAW adoption. With so many incredible and portable VST plugins, an open source core is such a great fit.

With regards to SoundCloud's future, their revenue is growing, they're profitable, and they've recently raised. I'm also one of the developers working on it. Can't speak to fraud as it's not my area + NDA, but

I've found xstate invaluable for multi-step flows on the front end. Redux and similar libraries are a bit hard to read when making these because representing sequential distinct states is implicit. I.e., have an enum for the "page

Something I love about advanced TypeScript types: they're easy to consume given some documentation, even when the programmer doesn't understand them. Defining the types is another story. Editors give great autocomplete suggestions

It looks like you put a lot of thought into this! Connective allows users to create graphs between sources and sinks flexibly (i.e., not only source to sink ala typical RxJS), without needing to worry about multicasting. Is this a fair way

It's declarative in the sense that the instructions are set in text. But what goes inside a Dockerfile might be imperative, like running apt-get to install packages (i.e., running steps in order).
