Serious(-ish) question: does "And last but not least, I hereby decree that all texsht herein be read in Sean Connery voish." mean that this technically isn't FOSS?

Unrelated to the article's thesis: the use of both colors and numbers in the static map of the Roman Empire is very clever and I wish this technique were used more often. I don't in general have trouble distinguishing colored area

I once proposed to some people I know getting started in app development an idea: the app would listen to what you say and if you said the word "güey" more than five times in a 24 hour window it would give you an electric shock. I

I'm reasonably certain that I'm not your father but I used to do that too - although I don't think I made it into the hundreds.

Yes, in a line in "Born in the USA." Of course there's an implicit eyeroll there; it's not used to denigrate Asian people.

I'm with you. It's easier said than done, of course, but crash-only software is a worthwhile goal IMO.

To me this basically seems like boat programming made respectable. Of course, if you asked me, it always was. You couldn't assume great connectivity then and you often still can't today.

I know it does, but is it comparable to what you get access to if you learn French or German or Indonesian?

When evaluating libraries, recent activity is one of the things I look at. It's a far from perfect heuristic. I've probably rejected libraries like yours for what amounts to no very good reason. I don't know if this is a go

Yep, all this. The only thing I'll add is that, ca 2012 which is when whatsapp started really taking off where I live, intercarrier SMS was slow and unreliable. WhatsApp was fast and reliable.

He wrote https://github.com/Wilfred/deadgrep too. It's awesome and I don't know how I lived without it for so long.

It gives actual insight into prognosticators' accuracy. If their 90%s are right about nine times out of ten, their 60%s six out of ten, and so on, then they're pretty good. If they're not then they're not.

I wish Casio made earbuds. I doubt they'd have the best sound and they probably wouldn't be very comfortable (no different from the competition) and they surely would be no sartorial revelation. But they would last forever and the

Of the 100 most recent emails I have marked as spam in gmail, 26 were misclassified. FWIW, just an anecdatum and probably a real outlier and all that.

Maybe you grew up speaking a language where penultimate and antepenultimate's cognates are in common use, like Spanish. I still remember hearing a Mexican friend whose English was, at the time, very basic use the word "polemical&q

In many circumstances, WhatsApp works better -- like, a lot better -- than normal calls. Also it's often subsidized. They probably could have paid extra money out of pocket to call normally and get a substandard experience.
