Short sighted for protecting the income of the vulnerable taxi drivers and small time taxi companies? Since the introduction in London, waves of Minicab offices have closed down. Hats off to them to resist this. Not everything in life is au

Yup. I have this principle of never investing in or building on a closed ecosystem. This means I miss on a lot, but ultimately all of these services go down with no regard to your business.

It's such a shame the licensing of Wolfram Mathematica is so strict and pricing is high. I get it, it's the fruit of a lot of hard work but sadly it won't get the traction it deserves.

Mate my two cents: move on. I see a lot of comments urging you to fight this tooth and nail but it really isn't worth it. It's a losing battle, the job is lost and whatever you do to try to win it back will not work unless some mi

Shame some of us are more concerned with providing a living for our families than winning an ideological war right?

Erm... Wouldn't that be similar to Google rejecting the trademark "Apple" from their search results? You're making it sound like Apple owns Pebble trademark and aren't happy for it to be used.

Not an operating system in traditional terms. but it certainly is operating a system, on a higher level. Plus, life is too short to be offended by what people call their product.

Well this is true but ultimately the end result of my work is code and people tend to pay attention to that when you work remote. PS ping me if you need a new dev, my current contract is coming to an end :D

I see how this could be a problem. Luckily where I work, everyone is a remote. And I think this is something to watch out for, make sure remote working is embedded in company culture before accepting the role.

Been working from home for a year now and I will never go back. My productivity has gone up 2X, mainly because I'm not physically present in an office pretending to work by just being there. I need to push code in to prove I've do

Why stop here then? Why not donate 90% of your income to charity and live in a shanty town?

This is bad advice. This is living life on hard mode. I wouldn't testify. You don't have anything to gain other than morality points, but you'll have everything real to lose.

I've played around with both languages and to my limited knowledge Go just seems like a more modern C language with a GC and easy multithreading. Rust on the other hand is a completely different animal to anything I've used before

What what a load of drivel... You're killing the messenger here. None of what you said here justifies what Google is doing for instance with .dev. How can you compare a restricted .gov TLD to the exclusive use of TLDs by Google?
