I don't believe that's true, though there are multiple projects that offer that feature. lbzip2.org and compression.ca/pbzip2 to name a couple.

Compiling #include <stdint.h> uint64_t inc(uint64_t x) { return x + 1; } With -O0 gives me: 48 83 c0 01 add $0x1,%rax and with -O2: 48 8d 47 01 lea 0x1(%rdi),%rax That is, both are four

That's quite a claim. I agree that most uses of these operators as an expression are not wise. Some are though. As a counter-claim, I offer: array[i++] = this; array[i++] = that; array[i++] = the_other; which also extends ni

Would be nice to indicate in the title that the article is about AMD's proprietary drivers, rather than the free software drivers in Mesa.

Indeed. The x86 equivalent gem ( http://dflund.se/~john_e/gems/gem0001.html ) makes a point to note that. Odd that it's not mentioned on the m68k page. For what it's worth, my copy of the C11 spec says

I suspect that the overwhelming majority of cases that warrant inline assembly would not benefit if it was instead a function call out to something you've linked in. That is, most inline assembly is a small snippet of optimized code th

The lack of ports (notably ethernet) is minorly annoying to me, but much worse than that is the totally inadequate cooling. My 2013 15" MBP quickly overheats and thermally throttles when compiling. Maxing the fans doesn't help muc

Not in itself, no. I'd be happy to have a PhD writing unit tests for me, but if they're overqualified for that (which I think is the assumption we're making) I'd probably rather have them working on a harder problem. I t
