Others have mentioned it, but it's worth saying again: please don't wear headphones while biking in a busy city. It only takes the one time when you need swerve around that parked car's open door and but can't quite hear the car that is abo

I also have the crank-adjustable desk mentioned and vouch for its coolness. Very nice to be able to switch from sitting to standing on demand.

It seems that development is going full steam ahead even though the project hasn't reached it's funding goal yet. What happens if the goal isn't met by the deadline? I can't imagine Dalton will just drop it. I guess what I'm asking is, what

Big ups to the team! I've always had much respect for ZenCoder in terms of people, technology, and company.

What's your definition of "basic level of understanding"? A public API is about 99% of what we (Crocodoc) offer. While designing the latest version of our API, I always erred on the side of staying true to REST principles. Fortunately there

The way it's detecting Django (checking for the Django CSRF cookie) is false-negative prone. For example, our site (crocodoc.com) uses Django but is not registering for it; probably because we don't have any forms on our homepage so no CSRF

Employees are typically awarded stock options with a non-zero strike price based on the FMV of the company at the time the options grant. Those options very well could end up worthless.

Also a fan of virtualenvwrapper. workon with tab completion (in bash, at least) is so nice when you've got more than a few virtualenvs and can't quite remember your naming scheme :)

Since you got rid of the MySQL bottleneck, it seems your server architecture now simply isn't able to handle higher concurrency. If you suddenly got 5-10x the number of users, you'd have the same problems as before adding your AJAX queueing

I know disk space is cheap these days, but at 16MB/metric/<level-of-granularity>, it seems like your metric dataset would grow pretty quick. With just 10 metrics tracked daily, thats another gigabyte per week. Of course it does come

I would not recommend expensing rent. The best you can legally* do in the eyes of the IRS is get a smallish deduction/credit (I forget which) for however many square feet of your home are used solely as a workspace. *I am not a lawyer

I'm not too familiar with RoR, but does the mass assignment vulnerability basically boil down to not doing any input validation for the convenience of updating several model fields in one line of code?

No, PDFs don't have to be generated from PS at all. PDF has it's own well-defined spec. Valid PDF files can be generated in many ways besides from PS files. It's even possible to write a valid PDF file by hand if you're feeling masochistic.
